Need something to do?  How about catching a local reading or entering a literary contest!

On Saturday, March 21, at 7:30, catch StoryStudio Chicago student, Ann Laughlin read from her new mystery, Veritas.  She will be reading at Women and Children First bookstore in Andersonville. This reading is part of the monthly Sappho’s Salon. Anne is the newest author signed to Bold Strokes Books, one of the world’s largest LBGTQ publishers. There is a $7-10 sliding scale fee.  Food, wine and dancing are included. Ann reads first so get there early and grab a great seat!

Also at Women and Children First; catch the reading on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 7:30 with S.L. Wisenberg who will be reading from The Adventures of Cancer Bitch.

Blue Mesa Review has extended it’s 2009 Fiction Contest for this year to April 1st!  The editors have chosen to extend the contest because of lack of submissions. There is a $1000 prize and, with fewer submissions, there is a greater chance that you may win.  Your entrance fee will get you the contest issue of the magazine and enter you into the submission process.  Judge is Barry Kitterman.  The entrance fee is $15.  You can submit online or mail submissions to:

Poets & Writers Magazine has listed over 35 writing contests with deadlines until April 15th.  Check out their most current submission calendar online. Some good news about Poets & Writers is that they have recently received a $25,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to support creative writing workshops for seniors.
