Another chance to get out there & make your voice heard! PLUS it will be excellent practice for when you sell that million dollar multiple book deal and have to go on a whirlwind international book junket and have to talk to Oprah and Dave and Conan and Jon Stewart and read aloud in front of packed stadiums full of 50,000 people cheering your name.
From Former StoryStudio Student Hallie Gordon:
Tuesday Funk is an evening of fiction, essays and poetry presented by the Gothic Funk organization. We hold monthly readings at the Ennui Cafe in Rogers Park on first Tuesdays. Our aim is to provide an opportunity for writers to hear their work in front of a supportive audience of literature lovers for the purpose of mutal inspiration.
Right now we are booking our September 2nd, October 7th and November 4th events and we are looking for writers. We invite three to five writers each month to read in 12-15 minute slots. (We can do the occassional mini-slot if you are interested in reading something under five minutes). It is up to you what you would like to read: short stories, novel excerpts, non-fiction essays, poetry, humor, it’s all welcome. We try to build a balanced evening based on the types of submissions we get and writer availablity.
If you are interested in participating, please email us a short sample of your work (900 words max please, it’s fine if you end mid-sentence) along with a brief bio (please keep this under five sentences for the sake of our publicity material) and let us know which of these dates you would be available to read.
You can email queries and writing samples to me: Hallie Gordon: and/or my co-producer Reinhardt Suarez:
Many thanks,
Hallie Gordon
