From Dana:

In early May, I attended Writing Away Retreats.  This was a phenomenal retreat experience and I wanted to share it with fellow StoryStudio writers.  We were in a beautiful secluded house in the mountains outside of Taos, NM, so it was the perfect atmosphere for getting a lot of writing done (not to mention how cool it was to hot tub with a view of the mountains and coyotes howling in the distance).  Cicily Janus, the founder and director of Writing Away Retreats, keeps the number of writers to a select minimum so that each can receive the utmost of attention.  For this session, there were ten of us there from all over the country, and the bonding experience was very special.  Cicily also happens to be a gourmet chef so the food at the retreat was incredible and plentiful and fresh and delicious.  The main reason that this retreat appealed to me was the unbelievable cast of industry professionals that Cicily draws to these retreats, and the attending
writers have unprecedented access to them.  Cicily schedules outstanding agents and editors from major New York publishing houses, as well as successful authors.  They read your work and give you feedback and advice.  Not only this, but they are available to you all weekend as they are immersed with you in the experience and eat and play with you throughout the whole retreat.  I forged great networking bonds and learned a lot.  No other conference or retreat I have attended has come close to this kind of access to publishing profesionals.  The other really awesome benefit of the conference is Cicily’s exhuberant ability to inspire and challenge the writers in attendance.  She is truly prolific and by sharing tales of her own book projects and writings and experience, we all came away with fresh new ideas for our own projects.

Writing Away Retreats has more sessions coming up this fall.  And, there are even scholarship contests for free tuition.  Be sure to act now though, the deadline for contest entries is July 1st.  The link for Writing Away Retreats is below.  If you sign up, please tell Cicily I said hello!
